Bhubaneswar: The BJP legislative party will have a new leader before the start of monsoon session of Odisha Assembly.
This was revealed by BJP MLA Kusum Tete, while speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. She said the BJP legislative party needs a leader as the present Leader of the Opposition (LOP) Pradipta Kumar Naik has not been able to attend the Assembly session due to his ailing health.
The BJP legislators have sent a proposal, citing the need for a legislative party leader, to national president of the party JP Nadda and state president Samir Mohanty. Since several important issues would be raised and full state budget would be discussed during the monsoon session of the Assembly, the BJP needs a leader to put across the party’s views and suggestions, they said.
“There are several senior and experienced MLAs of BJP who are capable of playing the role of Leader of the Opposition,” said Tete. However, the decision has been left to the party president in this regard, she added.
The monsoon session of the Assembly will begin on July 2 when Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will present the full budget for 2022-23 financial year . The session will continue till August 4 with 24 working days.
Meanwhile, Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha has called a meeting for coordination among all parties for smooth functioning of the House on June 29.
