Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of BJP will stage demonstration in front of all offices of Tata Power across the state on Wednesday and Thursday in protest against undeclared powercuts.

This was announced by state general secretary of the party Prithviraj Harichandan at a press conference in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Holding the Energy department responsible for frequent and repeated unscheduled power-cuts, he said the government’s lenient attitude towards electricity distribution company, Tata Power, has led to untold miseries of the people.

“At a time when entire Odisha is burning due to intense heatwave, the government remains indifferent to snapping the power supply even in mid-day. It is apparent that the government is deliberately patronising a private company for its vested interests,” said Harichandan.

Alleging that the Tata Power has flouted the norms of the agreement for power supply with the government, the BJP leader said the people of rural areas are suffering due to 4-5 hours of power-cut while the urban places experience disruption in supply for 20-25 times in a day.

“Even after utilising all the existing infrastructure free of cost, why the discom has failed in ensuring 24×7 power supply? Why has the Energy department remained silent on the issue? Why the Energy Minister is not responding to the people’s problems?” asked Harichandan.

Demanding that the government must release a white paper on the power situation in the state and the steps taken to mitigate power-cuts, he sought stern action by the chief minister on Tata Power and Energy department.

As a mark of protest against the government’s apathy towards undeclared power-cuts, the BJP workers would states demonstration before all Tata Power offices in the state on June 14 and 15, the BJP leader said.
