Bhubaneswar: As grueling heatwave conditions remained unabated, entire Odisha continued to boil with the day temperature soaring above 43 degree Celsius in at least 11 places on Wednesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district turned out to be the hottest place in the state recording 44.5 degree Celsiue. Eleven places experienced extreme heat with the mercury soaring past 43 degree Celsius.
Baripada was closely followed by Nuapada with 44.4 degree Celsius. Balangir recorded 44 degree Celsius, followed by Boudh with 43.9, Talcher 43.8, Angul 43.7, Jharsuguda 43.6, Rourkela 43.3, Sambalpur 43.2, titlagarh 43.1 and Sundargarh 43 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack reeled under 42.5 and 42.2 degree Celsius respectively.
According to the IMD, heatwave is likely at one or two places in Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Deogarh and Angul till 8.30 am on Thursday. Similar conditions will prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh in the subsequent 24 hours.
The MeT office has also forecast rain at some places in the state during this period.
On April 22-23, several districts in the state is likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40kmph under the influence of a fresh western disturbance. Rain will also be more widespread from these days.
