Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely to continue in Odisha till August 24 under the influence of a low-pressure area, which persists over central parts of Bangladesh and neighbourhood and is expected to move north-northwestwards across West Bengal during the next 48 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Balasore, Bargarh and Nuapada districts on Tuesday (August 20).
It also warned of light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning in some parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati till 4.30 pm.
According to the midday bulletin, heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Deogarh on Wednesday (August 21). While there is no warning on August 22, heavy rain may resume at one or two places in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati on August 23 and continue in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts on August 24.
The IMD further stated that light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to continue at many places across the state during the subsequent 24 hours.
