Bhuhbaneswar: Several important proposals are likely to get the approval of the Odisha cabinet which is slated to meet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday evening.
According to sources, over ten key proposals are likely to get the stamp of approval in the cabinet meeting. Several of the proposals pertain to the department of Rural Development.
Some of the proposals seek implementation of projects under the ambitious Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY). Proposals involving an investment to the tune of Rs 3708 crore are expected to receive the approval of the state cabinet.
The proposals are aimed at strengthening road connection network in rural, remote and far-flung areas of the state.
It may be noted that the Odisha government targets to construct over 15,000 km roads under MMSY with an expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore in the next 5 years, official sources said.
Apart from the roads, 1,500 new bridges would be built with a cost of Rs 6,000 crore under Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) during the period to improve the road connectivity in rural areas of the state. While the government had committed to construct 750 bridges, 679 have already been completed and 900 more will be built by March, 2024.
