Baripada: The police on Wednesday arrested five people from Baripada Sadar area on charges of poaching.
The accused had been spotted by forest personnel on camera traps while they were suspiciously moving inside Similipal National Park, said sources.
They were identified as Karunakar Mallik, Kartika Bhakta, Bhola Bhakta, Gunu Bhakta, Rabi Bhakta.
Three country-made pistols, one loaded gun, 100 gms gun powder, two flash lights, large hand saws, 200 numbers of pellets and a bamboo trap were seized from their possession.
The five suspects were detained from Besarpani village under Baripada Sadar police limits following a tip-off from forest personnel who had spotted these persons on camera traps installed in Similipal, the sources added.
They were subsequently arrested and booked under the Arms Act, and Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and remanded in judicial custody.
