Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Odisha has announced changes in the Plus II science syllabus and examination pattern with effect from the 2023-24 academic year.
Sources said a notification in this regard has been issued to all the stakeholders of Higher Secondary Education affiliated with the Council after obtaining the approval of the Academic Committee and the Council.
The syllabi of physics, chemistry, and biology have been rationalised as per CBSE and will be applicable from the academic session 2023-24. Regular students will appear in the annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024 as per the rationalised physics, chemistry, and biology syllabi. The rationalised syllabus is available on the CHSE website: www. chseodisha.nic.in.
All other subjects of science, arts, commerce, and vocational streams will remain unchanged for the annual Higher Secondary Examinations, 2024. In mathematics, the rationalised syllabus will be applicable for the students of Class XI taking admission from the 2023-24 session. However, students of Class XII of the 2023-24 academic session who will appear in the annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024 in the subject will follow the old syllabus, the notification said.
The syllabi in all subjects of arts and commerce streams, and all subjects of science stream except physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology shall remain unchanged for the 2023 admission batch. The syllabi of the vocational stream for the 2023 admission batch will be notified shortly.
It further said that quarter-end examinations (three tests) have been replaced by two Internal Tests for Class XII students who will appear in the annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024. Question pattern of internal tests will be similar to the Quarter-end examinations conducted during the session 2022-2023.
This apart, 20% weightage will be given to Internal Tests and 80% weightage to Annual/Instant Examinations (both in theory and practical). The guidelines and schedule for the conduct of the said Tests shall be issued by the Council in due course of time.
Books in physics, chemistry, and biology published by NECRT, New Delhi, have been recommended along with textbooks published by Odisha State Bureau of Text Books Preparation and Production for Class Xl students appearing for the annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024.
For students of mathematics appearing for the annual Higher Secondary Examinations 2024, textbooks published by the Odisha State Bureau of Text Books Preparation and Production have been recommended.
