Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced a Rs 3 per litre incentive for milk producers, supplying to (Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED).
Speaking at a state-level event on the occasion of World Milk Day in Bhubaneswar, organised by the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, he further stated that the state government will bear Rs 2 of the Rs 4 per litre consumer price hike. “This decision is expected to benefit around 2.5 lakh dairy farmers across the state, providing them with better returns for their efforts,” he said.
The CM also announced an accidental death benefit of Rs 1 lakh for families of OMFED-affiliated farmers.
During the event, Majhi also launched three new OMFED products—Bucket Curd, A2 Milk, and A2 Desi Cow Ghee—and emphasised dairy’s role in rural livelihoods and nutrition. “Odisha produced 26.4 lakh metric tonnes of milk in 2023–24 and efforts are underway to double this figure in the next five years,” he said.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to the dairy sector through Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, which has supported nearly 3 lakh beneficiaries with Rs 71 crore for cattle-related activities in 2024–25.
