Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday distributed 8,000 bi-cycles to community partners of women Mission Shakti groups working under the state government’s urban initiatives programme.
The cycles were distributed for use of women engaged as Jalsathi, sanitary partners, Aahar Karmi and supervisors in urban areas of the state as part of efforts to enhance their efficiency and save time.
The Chief Minister distributed the cycles to the members of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) at an event organised by Housing & Urban Development and Mission Shakti departments at the convention hall of Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.
Thanked the Chief Minister for the bicycles, the recipients said that these would increase their efficiency. The cycles would enable them to reach their place of work easily and also spend more time with families.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the participation of commnity partners in different activities under urban initiatives has led to the success of Mission Shakti.
Stating that he has been meeting women members of Mission Shakti, Naveen said the success of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) gives him immense happiness.
“Mission Shakti has been performing very well and has set a benchmark for others to emulate. I am extremely happy with the success of Mission Shakti and the women contributing to its success,” the Chief Minister said.
“Your confidence has made Mission Shakti. You have taken up different tasks in different cities. Everyone is happy with the work of SHG members,” said Naveen.
Stating that Mission Shakti members performing important work in urban areas as community partners, the Chief Minister said they are playing a significant role in areas such as solid waste disposal, water supply, sanitation and food programme.
