Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated the Adani-KISS Tribal Residential School at Bankishole in Mayurbhanj district.
Addressing a gathering, the CM said, “Education is empowerment and the real transformation can possible through education. The work of KISS and its founder Dr Achyuta Samanta for the empowerment of tribals through education is really praiseworthy.”
He expressed his gratitude to KISS authority and Adani Group for establishing the tribal residential school in Mayurbhanj district.
Naveen also laid foundation stone of several developmental projects worth Rs 200 crore in Mayurbhanj district. He also announced Rs 5 crore for development of Jagannath temple in Baripada town.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani,, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marandi, Mayurbhanj MP Bishweswar Tudu, Rajya Sabha member Sarojini Hembram, Baripada MLA Prakash Soren, Adani Foundation Chairperson Dr. Priti Adani, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.Karan Adani and KISS and KIIT founder Dr. Samanta were present.
“Education is the most powerful tool for social transformation. Adani Foundation is happy to strengthen the education scenario in the far off tribal areas of Odisha by partnering with the prestigious Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS),” Dr. Priti Adani said.
Dr. Samanta said that 28 years back KISS took initiatives to include tribal community in the main stream of the society through education, which has been proved successfully today. “It is not important for KISS that, 60 thousand students are getting education; it is more important that, it has created awareness among more than 60 lakh tribal students of Odisha and other states of India,” he added.
The KISS founder said that many tribal organizations and intellectuals had requested him to open a branch in Mayurbhanj district for under privileged and poor tribal children. “The poor tribal students of Mayurbhaj district will now have access to quality education in Adani-KISS residential School. In the first phase, 1500 students of Mayurbhanj district will be enrolled from Class I to XII. They can later pursue their higher education in KISS Deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar,” he said.
“Only the candidates of Mayurbhanj will get employment in Adani-KISS,” he added.
Adani-KISS fully equipped with all modern facilities has come up on 50 acres of land with complete financial support of Adani Foundation.
On this occasion, a 50-bed hospital in Adani-KISS campus was also inaugurated. The hospital will serve the students, staff of Adani-KISS as well as the common people of Mayurbhanj district. The 24 x 7 hour hospital will be managed by the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bhubaneswar.
