Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced up to 10 per cent reservation and five-year age relaxation for Agniveers in uniformed services in Odisha.

Speaking to media, the CM hailed the Angipath scheme as a landmark initiative launched by Narendra Modi government for upgrading armed forces, taking into account the defence requirements of the country.

“The Odisha government has decided to recruit Agniveers in the state’s uniformed services since the initiative has made our youth able and fearless, so that they can face various challenges in life. The 10% reservation will provided to those from the state who are not absorbed in the defence forces,” he told the presser at Lokseva Bhawan here before leaving for Delhi to attend NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting.

He further stated that the age limit for them in government services will also be relaxed by 5 years.

“Our soldiers are our pride. The Agniveers selected under the scheme are well trained and qualified to serve the nation in various security-related sectors,” he added.

Notably, CMs of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have also announced reservation for Agniveers in state uniformed services.

The Agniveer enrol in Indian Armed Forces for a period of four years and only 25% of the them are taken in as regular cadre on completion of the engagement. The rest are expected to return to the society to pursue a career in the profession of their choice with the aim of finding employment in other sectors as a disciplined, dynamic, motivated and skilled manpower.
