Bhubaneswar: Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo on Sunday said that colleges in the state have been directed to conduct extra classes for weak students and those having low attendance.
When asked about School and Mass Education Department’s plans to cancel holidays, he said, “We have implemented proctorial system and students with low attendance have been asked to attend extra classes.”
The Odisha government has been making several efforts to improve the academic standard of students studying in schools and colleges across the state. On Friday (January 10), School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash had announced state-wide parent-teacher meetings on January 16 to improve attendance and learning abilities of school children.
As part of its ‘zero fail mission’ under Ujjwal, Uttthan and Utkarsh programme, the Odisha government had earlier decided to conduct extra classes in all primary schools during summer vacation. Dash had said that teachers, who have rotation duty in their respective primary schools during summer vacation, will take extra classes for the students who are weak in specific subjects and secure less than 35% marks.
