Bhubaneswar: Following a surge of COVID-19 positive cases among both patients and staffers, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar has decided to close down its walk-in OPD services from July 10 till further notice, the hospital director, Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane, said on Thursday.
Dr Batmanabane said that the hospital was facing a shortage of staff because many of the employees who had tested positive and their contacts were in quarantine. Besides, many staffers were residing in containment zones and therefore unable to report for duty.
She informed that patients can continue to contact doctors through tele-medicine services as well as an app called ‘AIIMS Bhubaneswar Swasthya App’ that will be launched on Friday.
“However, we will continue to see patients through our casualty and emergency services. Our dialysis, day care and radiotherapy services will continue as well,” she added.
Dr Batmanabane further informed that the first COVID-19 positive patient was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on March 19.
