Bhubaneswar: Congress workers and leaders staged a demonstration in Bhubaneswar on Thursday protesting ‘derogatory’ statements made by BJP and Shiv Sena leaders against Rahul Gandhi.
A large number of party workers took out a march from Congress Bhawan to Kharvel Nagar police station and filed a complaint against BJP leaders for their alleged derogatory remarks and death threats targeting Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
The state Congress demanded that a case be registered against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, UP Minister Raghuraj Singh, BJP functionary Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Shiv Sena-Shinde MLA Sanjay Gaikwad.
Stating that Congress is reaching new heights after Rahul Gandhi became the Leader of Opposition, the protesters said the party has successfully stopped the launch and implementation of schemes like UPSC lateral entry, and creamy layer in SC/ST quota.
Unable to push certain schemes in an arbitrary manner, BJP and Ministers, MPs and MLAs are making personal attacks on Rahul Gandhi, they claimed.
Stating that personal attack is not tolerable in democracy, the demonstrators claimed that BJP leaders are even giving death threats and announcing bounty to kill Rahul, which should be condemned.
BJP leaders, on the other hand, accused Rahul Gandhi of making anti-India statements during his travel abroad.
It may be noted that Marwah recently issued a threat and said, “Rahul you better behave, or you will meet the same fate as your grandmother.”
