Bhawantipatna: Congress workers led by senior party leader Bhakta Das took out a bike rally in Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Wednesday to seek justice for schoolteacher Mamita Meher.
Besides the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, they demanded imposition of the President’s rule in Odisha over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Launching a scathing attack on the ruling BJD, Das questioned helicopter trip of Minister of State For Home Dibya Shakar Mishra to Golmunda. “Whom was he trying to impress by riding a chopper to college?” he asked.
He further alleged that several top government officials were involved in the case and they belong to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). “The CM would have sacked the minister by now if others were not involved in the case,” he said at the protest meet organised by the Kalahandi district unit of Congress at Gandhi Chhak here.
Das said that everything changed after 2014. “The main accused, Govind Sahu, became close to the ministers, MLAs. Funds were released for school and college unabated. They were invited to the institution regularly,” he alleged.
He added that an elected representative has turned a criminal.
