Balangir: Amid COVID-19 lockdown, police and security personnel in Turkela block, a Maoist-affected area of Balangir district, are feeding around 2000 people of 10 villages daily.
Started with distribution of 150 meals in Turkela and five adjoining villages, the number increased when 30 SOG and 11 DVF jawans, besides 20 policemen, came forward to support the cause.
“There are many destitute and mentally-challenged people in these villages who wait for our team to arrive everyday so that they can have their food. We will continue this initiative till the lockdown ends,” head of district voluntary force (DVF) of Balangir Unit, Satyajit Kandelkar was quoted by The New Indian Express as saying.
They spend Rs 5,000 a day on cooking the food, which is then distributed in these villages using vehicles while practising social distancing norms, essential to keep the deadly coronavirus at bay.
