Dhenkanal: The main accused in the sensational gang rape of a college girl in Bhuban area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district nearly two months ago has been arrested by the crime branch police.
After carrying out raids at different places, the crime branch personnel nabbed the main accused, identified as Pradip Sahu alias Padia (45) of Gada Nrusinghaprasad, from a hideout in Angul district, sources said on Wednesday.
Another accused, Manguli Dehuri alias Baj was arrested from Panikoili area of Jajpur district. Two accused persons had earlier been arrested following the ghastly incident that took place at Baruan in Bhuban area of Dhenkanal on October 20 during Dussehra festival.
The incident took place when the girl, student of a college in Bhuban, was returning home at a remote village of the district with a male friend in the evening. They were stopped by two bike-borne youths who snatched away their mobile phones. Two other accused soon reached the site.
The four then thrashed the girl’s male friend and took her into a cashew forest nearby and committed the crime.
After the ordeal, the girl and her male friend managed to reach home and lodged a complaint with the police the next day. While two persons were arrested in connection with the incident after two days, the case was later handed over to the crime branch for thorough probe.
