Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Monday, announced that Odisha will soon develop facilities to host the prestigious Davis Cup. The decision was announced at the first ever ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament, which began at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
After Asian Athletics Championships, hockey and football, this is a major tennis tournament which has been organised in the city.
A total of 64 players from 10 countries are participating in the tournament. The total prize money involved in Rs 9.75 lakh.
Odisha’s Chinmay Pradhan and Anshu Kumar Bhuyan have been given wild card entry into the tournament.
The trophy was unveiled by Chief Secretary AP Padhi in the presence of AITA Secretary General Hiranmoy Chatterjee and OTA president Asit Tripathy.
The Tennis tournament will continue till March 3.
