Bhubaneswar: With the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha approaching, the authorities have stepped up preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the simultaneous polls.
As part of the mega exercise, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been transferred to Bhubaneswar ahead of the elections.
As per reports, the EVMs meant for Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat and five Assembly constituencies under the Parliamentary area taken to the strong room amid tight security arrangements.
Sources said a total of 2332 EVMs have been brought to the state capital and the machines are now kept in the strong room in BJP college amid tight security. Around 25 per cent of the EVMs, brought from Khurda, would be kept in reserve.
Police personnel in strength have been deployed at the site as part of safety measures. Senior officials, including Khurda district collector, supervised the whole exercise.
Notably, voting in Odisha will be held in four phases on May 13, 20, 25 and June 1.
