Bhubaneswar: An engineering student from Gajapati district died of drowning in sea at Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, while four others were rescued on Sunday.
According to sources, around 60 students of Centurion University at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district had gone on a picnic to Bhavanapadu beach. During the picnic, some students went to the sea to have fun.
While the students were in the sea, five of them were dragged into deeper water by the current. As the other students shouted for help, some fishermen present on the beach rushed to the rescue of drowning students.
The fishermen managed to rescue four students and brought them to the shore, while another student, Sekhar Kumar Behera, went missing. After some time, Sekhar’s body washed ashore.
The rescued students were rushed to the local hospital. Later, two of them were shifted to another hospital as their condition deteriorated.
