Bhubaneswar: A day after arresting fake doctor Ramesh’s drive Papu, police on Friday traced his housekeeper Geeta. The cops hope to elicit important information from her in connection with the case.
The 66-year-old Swain, arrested last month for alleging conning several women in Odisha and outside the state into marriage and then cheating them of huge sums of money, was subjected to the lie detector test at the state forensic science laboratory (SFSL) here on Wednesday for about three hours and asked at least 70 questions.
Bhubaneswar DCP had told the media that they had requested a polygraph test since Swain never cooperated with police during the probe despite taking him thrice on remand. Besides duping 18 women, he was also involved in other types of frauds in and outside the state.
Though police had arrested his stepsister, Rashmita Beura, for allegedly helping him reinforce his identity as a doctor and win the trust of the women and their families, whom he targetted through matrimonials published in newspapers, they had been struggling to trace his properties and accomplices.
Papu, who had been absconding, was nabbed from Ranpur in Odisha’s Nayagarh district. Police suspect his involvement in the fraudulent activities.
