Bhubaneswar: Odisha will be the first state in the country to make early warning dissemination system (EWDS) operational, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said while addressing the state-level committee meeting on natural calamities here on Monday.
“Effective measures have been put in place to save lives of people and properties by making provisions for issuance of disaster warnings through alert towers at six coastal districts of Odisha ahead of the cyclones or Tsunamis,” he said.
The Chief Minister also directed the officials concerned to lay special emphasis on the vulnerable population, including pregnant women, widow, children and the differently-abled, while carrying out rescue and relief operations during disasters. He also asked them to keep sufficient quantity of food items and cattle feed ready in the vulnerable and inaccessible areas of the state.
