Bhubaneswar: With the 2024 elections barely months away, former Rajnagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty on Wednesday resigned from primary membership of Congress.
According to sources, Anshuman has sent his resignation to OPCC president Sarat Pattanayak. Son of former minister and Congress heavyweight Nalini Kanta Mohanty, he has also quit as Kendrapada district Congress president.
Anshuman won his first election to the state Assembly Elections in 2014 from Rajnagar in Kendrapada, when he avenged his father’s 2009 defeat. He, however, lost the 2019 election to BJD’s Dhruba Sahoo.
Anshuman is a mass leader and his quitting the Congress is likely to affect the party which has been gathering strength after the return of some of its veterans, who had deserted the party years ago, sources said.
This came close on the heels of former president of Angul district Congress Committee, Biplab Jena, resigning from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress. He sent a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that he was finding it difficult to carry out his responsibility to provide necessary service to the people of Angul and Odisha while being in the party.
