Bhubaneswar: The Higher Education department has withdrawn its order on termination of contract of ad hoc lecturers and ad hoc junior lecturers of government degree colleges while allowing them to continue on existing terms and conditions.
The department in an official order stated that its termination order was revised on the basis of the interim stay issued by the Orissa High Court.
On October 14 last year, the department issued an order stating that the contract of the ad hoc lecturers, who had worked over five years, will not be renewed after its expiry on May 31, 2020.
The department, which has issued a requisition to the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) for recruitment of 606 lecturer posts this year, decided to disengage 123 ad hoc lecturers it had appointed in government degree colleges in 2014.
Challenging the notice, the ad hoc teachers filed 27 petitions in the High Court.
After hearing the petition, the High Court put an interim stay on the termination order of the 123 ad hoc lecturers.
