Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has appointed chairpersons of 14 new Special Development Councils (SDCs) on recommendation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Following is the list of new chairpersons of the Councils:
Sadasiv Nayak – Angul
Madan Mohan Majhi – Balasore
Brajamohan Bisoi – Balangir
Bhagawan Kanhar – Boudh
Surendra Hembram – Dhenkanal
Lambodar Munda – Jajpur
Sivaji Majhi – Kalahandi
Bhagatram Majhi – Nuapada
Sobharam Pradhan – Sambalpur
Sushila Bhoi – Bargarh
Mohan Kisan – Jharsuguda
Janaki Dehuri – Nayagarh
Bidyadhar Jani – Ganjam
It may be noted that the SDCs were functioning in 9 districts in the state since 2017. Those districts are Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur and Malkangiri.
Recently, the chief minister announced to cover 14 more districts under SDCs.
The government has formed the SDCs to involve the tribals in all stages of development process starting from identification of deficit areas, felt needs, plan formulation, implementation and monitoring. Besides, the Councils focus on preservation of tribal culture and traditions, heritage and identity.
