Bhubaneswar: The state government has come to the rescue of the cancer-affected girl in Balasore district after she came out with flying colours in the annual Matric examination this year.
Balasore CDMO Dr Dulalsen Jagdev and BDO Narendra Kumar Khamari visited the girl, Monalisa Mandal, in Juari village on the direction of chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday.
They shifted her to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in an ambulance. While her treatment has started, the chief minister has directed that her expenses would be covered under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY). The district administration has also handed over an assistance of Rs 10,000 from Red Cross Fund.
Monalisa could not appear for the Matric exam last year after she was diagnosed with bone cancer in her right hand.
After a series of chemo therapies, Monalisa decided to appear for the examination this year. Notwithstanding the reluctance of her family members, the gritty girl went ahead with her decision and cleared the examination with 80 per cent marks.
