Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday constituted a three-member committee to probe the allegations of misconduct by a resident doctor of Cardiology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Cuttack city.

The Health and Family Welfare department issued an order in this regard. The committee will undertake a detailed enquiry into the allegations and recommend appropriate action to the government, the order said.

The panel comprises Prof Santosh Kumar Mishra, DMET, Prof Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Superintendent, SCB MCH, Cuttack and I/C Dean & Principal, SCB MCH, Cuttack, and Prof Roman Ratan, Joint DMET.

The step was taken after two patients levelled allegations of sexual assault against a resident doctor of Cardiology department of SCB MCH in Cuttack city.

As per sources, the incident took place on August 11 when they had come for an echocardiogram (ECHO) test.

The accused doctor was admitted to the ICU of the hospital after allegedly being thrashed by family members, including some undergraduate medical students, of the victims following the allegation.

An FIR has been lodged at Mangalabag police station in Cuttack city in this regard.

“The incident took place on Sunday and we received a complaint on Monday. Accordingly, a case has been registered and investigation is on. We have taken the incident seriously and the statement of the victims will be recorded,” Cuttack Additional DCP Anil Mishra, while refusing to divulge details about the case.

On reports about the doctor being thrashed, he added that a case will be registered if the doctor concerned lodges a complaint.

The hospital authorities are yet to issue a statement on the issue.
