Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the rise in the construction of several multi-storey buildings in rural areas, the Odisha government has framed new rules.

According to a gazette notification, any person or institution has to apply for permission from the Housing and Urban Development department through the panchayat samiti for construction of G+2 buildings (three-storey and above) on 500 sq metre area in rural areas. The panchayat samiti will send the application to the District Planning Committee for approval. The Committee after verifying the application will forward it to the Town Planning unit for the construction of the buildings with due approval of the planning members.

In case of the multi-story buildings the construction of which is underway, the concerned person or institution can obtain the approval by depositing the compound fee. Action will be taken for violation of the rules.

“It has come to the notice that the multi-storey apartments and shopping malls constructed in the rural areas and in the urban periphery have no drainage and sewerage provisions. To ensure proper planning for these high-rise buildings, the state government has framed the new rules,” Housing and Urban Development minister Pratap Jena told mediapersons here.
