Bhubaneswar: With just 73 days to go for the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 to be held in the Odisha capital, the state government is leaving no stone unturned in propelling its publicity campaign that will push awareness about the upcoming event and to promote sports tourism in the state.
One of the highlights of the campaign will be a Road Show wherein a convoy will be out on the road, making 17 stops in all corners of the country including six metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
This campaign is a first-of-its-kind push for sports tourism, which will showcase Odisha as a sporting hub as well as a tourist destination. The government will be underlining Odisha’s unique and compelling experiences and attractions, which makes it an ideal destination for local and foreign tourists.
Speaking about the Road Show, State Sports Youth Services Department and Odisha Tourism Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Vishal Dev said, “Hockey has catalysed the growth and popularity of the sport in our country. It has not only widened its fan base and believers but has also established itself as a highly competitive sport.”
“Through this Road Show, we look forward to extending the sports brand and welcoming the teams, fans, and tourists to Odisha. We want to give people a taste of Odisha’s authenticity when they come for the mega sporting event in November,” he added.
The campaign is expected to start from September 27.
The Odisha Government recently participated in a two day PATA travel mart that took place in Langkavi, Malaysia from the September 12 to 14. This event is internationally acclaimed for promoting travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific region.
The Odisha Government participated in this event to promote the state’s tourism and the upcoming Odhisa Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 in Bhubaneshwar.
