Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will take stringent action against cattle smugglers and those involved in cow slaughter, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokula Nanda Mallik said on Saturday

The Minister made this announcement on the occasion of Gopashtami, a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Krishna and his beloved cows.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to protecting cattle and preventing cow slaughter, Mallik said that two Punganur cattle from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh were brought to his home to mark Gopashtami.

Stating that the state government will bring tough legal measures to prevent cow slaughter and smuggling, he said there will be provision for stringent action against those involved in cow slaughter.

Mallik said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also spoke about this in Puri, emphasising the importance of the Kamdhenu Yojana in the state and its focus on improving cattle breeding.

He said the Chief Minister has set up a committee chaired by the Deputy CM and comprising five ministers and a Secretary. This committee will take action to prevent accidents involving cows on the roads and ensure their safety.
