Bhubaneswar: The District Education Officers (DEOs) have been asked by the Odisha government to initiate action against the schools lacking certificate of recognition (CoR). The state government has directed them to issue show-cause notices for closure.
According to Odisha School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash, private English medium schools not having CoR are going to face action and the DEOs have been issued instructions to initiate steps on the matter.
If statistics of the School and Mass Education (SME) department are anything to go by, around 39 per cent private English medium schools at the elementary level in the state are operating without the CoR from the education department.
As many as 1,969 private English medium schools are running in Odisha where education is imparted to students from Class I to VIII. Out of which, 765 schools are operating without CoR, while 1,204 have obtained CoR.
At the secondary level (Class IX and X) too, only 389 private schools have obtained the state government’s CoR more than 1,000 schools that are currently operating in the state.
