Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will soon launch ‘Godabarisha Mishra Adarsha Prathamika Vidyalaya Yojana’, an ambitious scheme to transform primary education in the state.
This was revealed when Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a review of various measures for the improvement of primary education in the state at a meeting in Lok Seva Bhawan on Wednesday.
Under this initiative, modern primary school buildings will be constructed across all panchayats. A total of 6,794 new schools are proposed to be launched, official sources said.
The scheme aims to create ideal learning environments inspired by the legacy of the Satyabadi Vana Vidyalaya, with a focus on enhancing children’s linguistic and arithmetic skills to better prepare them for higher education.
The Chief Minister stressed that the initiative will strengthen foundational learning and foster the intellectual development of young students through quality infrastructure, holistic education, and a supportive learning environment.
Each new school will have dedicated classrooms, separate toilets for boys and girls, boundary walls, green spaces, digital libraries, language labs, playgrounds, dining halls, computers, smart boards, and more. Sports, physical fitness, and social and cultural education will also be integrated into the curriculum.
This apart, the meeting deliberated plans to develop and preserve heritage schools — institutions over 100 years old or dating back to the pre-independence era. A total of 45 heritage schools will be renovated to honour Odisha’s historical and educational legacy, with contributions from notable alumni and former educators commemorated as part of the project.
Other topics discussed in the meeting included improvements to the mid-day meal system and the development of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalays (OAVs).
The meeting was attended by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Secretary of department Shalini Pandit, Project Director of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Yamini Sarangi, and Project Director of OSEPA Ananya Das.
