Bhubaneswar: In order to bring down carbon footprints in the state and promote e-vehicles, the Odisha government has announced to pay advance amounting to 75% of the cost of such vehicles to its employees.

As per a notice of the Finance department, the government would pay advance amount to its group A, B, C and categories of employees to purchase electric vehicles. While the advance would be paid to group A and B employees to purchase electric cars, the group C and D staff would be eligible for electric two-wheelers.

The group A and B employees are eligible to get 75% of the cost of electric cars or maximum Rs 15 lakh towards advance. Similarly, the group C and D employees would be paid 75% of the cost of electric two-wheelers or maximum Rs 2 lakh towards advance.

The advance amount would be deducted from the salary of the beneficiaries in 100 monthly equal instalments, the department stated in the notice.

Notably, the Odisha government had come up with electric vehicle policy in 2021. It had initially announced to provide 15% subsidy for purchase of electric vehicles to push their sales and promote EV adoption by consumers.

While maximum subsidy of Rs 5,000 was announced on purchase of two-wheelers, Rs 10,000 was to be given in case of three-wheelers. For four-wheelers, the subsidy amount was Rs 50,000 and in case of the purchase of electric buses, the subsidy was upto Rs 4 lakh.
