Bhubaneswar: The number of unemployed graduates in Odisha has gone up to nearly 3 lakh since 2019, said Skill Development & Technical Education Minister Pritiranjan Ghadai on Tuesday.
In a written reply to a question of BJD’s Rajnagar MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo in the Assembly on the last day of the monsoon session on Tuesday, the minister said there were total 2,98,933 registered unemployed graduates in the state.
While 11,06,536 unemployed youths registered their names in different employment exchanges since 2019, the number of youths who got employment has been marginal.
Ghadai said while 1,75,359 youths registered their names in 2019, their number was 60,976 in 2020; 1,59,650 in 2021; 1,68,629 in 2022 and 3,55,268 in 2023 so far.
Only 1,053 registered youths were employed in government offices in 2019 while 83 were given jobs in 2020. The number of employed youths in 2021 was 172; 59 in 2022 and 499 in 2023 so far, the minister added.
