Keonjhar: A home guard was crushed to death by an unknown vehicle in Ghasipura area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
The deceased was identified as Suresh Kumar Rout (47) of Tarimula village. He was posted at Ghasipura police station.
Sources said the mishap took place near Deogaon Chowk under the jurisdiction of Ghasipura police station in the wee hours of Thursday when the home guard was engaged in patrolling.
While it is suspected that he was run over by a iron ore-laden truck while trying to stop it, the exact circumstances that led to the mishap are being ascertained.
The vehicle sped away after the mishap and efforts are on to trace the truck and its driver. An investigation is in progress.
A team of police personnel reached the spot and recovered the mutilated body of the home guard which was sent to Anandapur sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem.
Ghasipura police has launched an investigation into the incident and a manhunt is on to nab the driver of the vehicle, the sources added.
