Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police’s Crime Against Women & Children Wing (CAW&CW) Inspector General S Shyni reached Delhi on Tuesday to review the progress of the probe into the rape of a woman from the state in the national capital.

According to official sources, the senior IPS officer will also meet the 34-year-old rape survivor at AIIMS Delhi, where she is being treated and enquire about her health condition.

The nursing graduate woman from Odisha was allegedly raped and later dumped in Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi. She was found in a semi-conscious state on October 11, and admitted to the AIIMS trauma care centre. Police there are, however, are yet to nab the culprit.

Though she is recuperating and her condition is stable, police are yet to record her statement, the sources said.

A day after the opposition BJD targeted the government on its silence even 3 days after the crime, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi asked Shyni to hold deliberations with Delhi Police regarding the probe to ensure justice for the victim, upon his return to Bhubaneswar from his home district Keonjhar on Monday night.

The CM has also assured the Delhi Police that the Odisha government would provide all support and fully cooperate with them to ensure proper investigation into the matter.

Earlier on Monday, Odisha DGP Y B Khurania spoke to the Delhi CP and enquired about the progress of the case registered under Sections 70(1) (gang rape) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He also stated that the state has been following the case with all seriousness and sensitivity.

A relative of the victim and a DSP of the state police also reached Delhi on Monday, sources added.

Meanwhile, Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) has written to National Commission for Women (NCW) and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), requesting for ground-level investigation into the rape case. “This is a shameful incident. As the incident occurred in Delhi, the National Commission and Delhi Commission have a pivotal role to play in conducting the probe. I am personally looking into the matter to ensure justice for the victim,” said OSCW Chairperson Minati Behera.
