Odisha Junior Revenue Assistant Convicted In Vigilance Case Dismissed From Service

Cuttack: Junior Revenue Assistant of Office of Settlement Officer, Ganjam-Koraput, Pradeep Kumar Sahu has been dismissed from government service following his conviction in a vigilance case, the authorities informed on Friday.

He was dismissed from service with effect from April 18, by Major Settlement Office, Berhampur, as per the provision of Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal Rules, 1962.

According to the Vigilance Directorate, Sahu’s dismissal was following his conviction by Special Judge Berhampur in September last year for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in return for a copy of ‘Yadast’ related to his landed properties. A chargesheet was filed against Sahu in the Vigilance police station (case No.33) on August 12, 2024, under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The Special Judge Court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for two years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In case of default of payment of fine, the judge had ordered further rigorous imprisonment for a period of two more months for the offence under Section 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.

The court had also sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs 5,000 for the offence under Section 7 of PC Act, 1988. In case of default of payment of fine, Sahu would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for another one month.
