Bhubaneswar: Odisha lifters did the state and country proud on the opening day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2023 at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida.
Jyoshna Sabar set the ball rolling by clinching gold in the 40 kg Youth category. The Odisha TENVIC Weightlifting HPC trainee achieved 53 kg in snatch, 64 kg in clean & jerk for a total of 116 kg.
Mina Santa, also from Odisha Weightlifting HPC, claimed the yellow metal in the 55 kg Youth category. She lifted a total of 160 kg, including a snatch of 73 kg, and clean & jerk of 87 kg.
Jhilli Dalabehera completed a hat-trick of Commonwealth championship medals, as she secured silver in the 49 kg Senior Women category.
The 24-year-old Jhili had won gold in 2019 (Samoa) and silver in 2021 (Tashkent).
