Odisha Logs 393 Fresh COVID Infections; 3 Districts Account For 66% Caseload

Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID caseload remained below 400 in Odisha for the second consecutive day on Tuesday with 393 fresh infections being detected from 5,421 samples in the last 24 hours.

Sundargarh district saw the highest 125 new cases followed by Sambalpur (71) and Cuttack (65).

Here are district-wise figures of the new cases:

The state now has 3,086 active cases with 339 more patients having recovered from the disease. The test positivity rate stands at 7.2%.

Odisha had reported 382 fresh infections the previous day after the COVID graph breached the 500-mark, the highest single-day spike since mid-August last year, with a TPR of 7.5%.

However, the state is seeing a decrease in testing since last two days against 6,000-7,000 samples earlier.

The weekly TPR (April 16 and April 22), on the other hand, had shot above 45% in Sambalpur. The western district has the highest TPR of 48%, followed by 25 per cent in Subarnapur, 21% in Sundargarh, 14.1% in Kalahandi and 13.94% in Nuapada.

Odisha has so far confirmed three COVID deaths this year. Around 1.3 per cent of patients have been hospitalised.

Amid the rising cases, the state government has made wearing face masks mandatory at all health facilities. It is applicable for all healthcare providers during duty hours, all officials and others present in the meetings, during congregation of people particularly in close rooms and persons providing clinical/laboratory and other support services in the hospital setting. Mask is also compulsory for people visiting areas having possibility of high transmission and the persons with influenza like illness.
