Bhubaneswar: Odisha Lokayukta has ordered Vigilance department to probe into the death of 2 persons in an illegal stone quarry in Jajpur district.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, the Lokayukta on Wednesday issued the order for Vigilance probe. It has directed Director of Vigilance Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa to submit the investigation report within two months.
As per the case, the incident took place in Lunibara under Jenapur police limits of the district on May 31. A contractor had engaged some labourers and an excavator machine for mining the stones without obtaining any permission from the authorities concerned.
While the illegal mining work was going on the fateful day, the excavator fell from a height of 50 feet. As a result, two persons including a minor boy died on the spot. They were identified as driver of the excavator Santanu Khilar and Apu Rout (17).
Dharmasala tehsildar at the time had said necessary action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
