Odisha Metals & Mining Conference Discusses Reforms With An Eye On ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’

Bhubaneshwar: The ‘Odisha Metals & Mining Conference’, organised by ASSOCHAM on Thursday, discussed various reforms needed to explore the metals and mining potential of the country by involving all major stakeholders to achieve mission ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

Arun Kumar, Regional Controller of Mines, Indian Bureau of Mines, stated that the Central government is committed to sustainable and inclusive growth by local community development, zero emission in mining operations, critical minerals exploration for transportation & new age technologies, beneficiation of low-grade ores and promoting skill development in skill centres of all mining zones in state and country.

Nitin Kale, member ASSOCHAM National Council on Mines & Minerals and senior vice-president of JSW Steel, said that Visit Bharat encompasses various facets of development like economic growth, environment sustainability, social progress and good governance with the aim of making India a developed nation by 2047.

He added that the Mining industry has potential to contribute 30 trillion US dollars to the economy by 2047 with an additional 25 million jobs expected directly and indirectly.

Odisha, being a mineral-rich state, has allocated the highest-ever 48 mines for auction and is expected to produce 200 MT of steel in future. Odisha has also added revenue to the tune of Rs 46,400 crore in the financial year 2023-2024, Kale said.

S K Sarkar, Zonal Manager (East), BEML Ltd Kolkata and S K Singh, Executive Director, Sainik Mining & Allied Services Limited, were among speakers at the conference.

A joint Knowledge Report was released by ASSOCHAM-ICRA on Odisha metals and mining sector.
