Gajapati: The alleged murder of a migrant labourer from Gajapati district, Sarat Parichha, took a new turn when Odisha police traced him to Mumbai.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he plotted the fake murder to stay away from his wife. He has been detained at Adava police station here for questioning.
Sarat’s family had lodged a complaint with police after one of his relatives received a picture of a body sent from the former’s mobile phone and was warned of dire consequences if he reported the matter to police. A video call was also made to the family on March 6 while he was being thrashed by some miscreants in Tamil Nadu. Sarat’s wife had then appealed to the state government to bring the body back to their native place.
Sarat from Baria village under Adava police limits had first migrated to Kerala and later to Tamil Nadu to work as a labourer. He had been working at Phudubuji district under Kabilpodi police limits for the last eight months.
After tracking the mobile phone, police found that the video was not shot at Tamil Nadu but in Mumbai. A police team then travelled to Mumbai and brought Sarat back to Odisha. “The accused has been rescued. He had put the administration into trouble by faking his murder. He is now being questioned and action will be taken against him as per law,” said Mohana IIC Subhant Kumar Panda.
