Bhubaneswar: Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Patra clarified on Friday that people of Odisha who are eligible for ration cards need not worry about e-KYC verification as they will be given adequate time to complete the process.
“The ongoing survey is being conducted to check for the dead and ineligible beneficiaries. The eligible beneficiaries do not need to worry about any deadline. We will give them sufficient time to complete e-KYC for availing ration cards,” the minister told mediapersons.
The minister added the state government realises that ration cards are crucial and e-KYC system is to ensure transparency in card distribution. With e-KYC, accurate credentials of beneficiaries can be known.
The government has so far received 9,91,929 applications for ration cards and verification process is underway. Applicants who are eligible to be covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be issued the cards.
However, issue of new cards is subject to completion of e-KYC verification of the existing cards.
