Bhubaneswar: Soon after Odisha Crime Branch submitted the chargesheet in the sensational murder of Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, the BJP termed it a document full of lies to suppress the deep-rooted conspiracy.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, senior BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan said the chargesheet has several loopholes which would be known in the court.

“First of all, the cause of murder has not been mentioned clearly in the chargesheet. While the murder has been attributed to past enmity by the Crime Branch, it has failed to mention why the minister and his followers wanted to harm the ASI,” he said.

“The chargesheet is full of lies. The first objectionable question would be what fear led Gopal to take such an extremely illegal step. Secondly, Gopal is not a common man nor a criminal. He is a person of stable mindset holding an officer post which his department must have certified. Even the Crime Branch has mention it in the chargesheet. In that case, what was the reason that led the accused to take such a big step? The document is silent on it,” the BJP leader said.

Moreover, the chargesheet further mentions that Gopal had prior enmity and personal grudge against Naba Das and it was a preplanned murder. But the Crime Branch does not mention when he planned it, he added.

“The Crime Branch has mentioned that Gopal’s mental condition is normal and he is a stable person. In that case, why a person of sound mental condition would take such a step putting his career and the future of his family at stake? The investigation has failed to strongly establish it,” Harichandan said.

Since all these facts have not been looked into or mentioned in the chargesheet, the Crime Branch has been successful in hiding the truth behind the murder and suppress the entire matter, he alleged.

“The government has been successful in writing a well scripted story through the Crime Branch to prevent the truth to come out. It is only a drama by the government to protect the people behind the real incident. It seems utltimately the government will succeed in its attempt to let Gopal Das set free by the court for lack of substantial evidence,” the BJP leader said.

Earlier in the day, the Crime Branch submitted a 543-page preliminary chargesheet in the case in Jharsuguda JMFC Court nearly four months after the sensational murder.
