Jajpur: A minor girl was allegedly raped by uncle several times in a running bus on Sunday night after being taken from her village in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The shocking incident came to light after an FIR was lodged by the rape survivor’s father on Monday.
The accused, stated to be distantly related to the girl, has been identified as Dayanidhi Jena (45) of Patiri village of Tarapada panchayat under Dasarathpur police limits in the district.
As per preliminary information, the 16-year-old girl of the same village was on her way to tuition in Purunasahi village on Sunday morning when the accused met her on the way. He reportedly asked the girl to accompany him to a hospital in Bhadrak saying that her mother had been admitted there for treatment.
Believing him, the girl initially went with the man on a motorcycle up to Aradi from where both went to Bhadrak town by bus. After reaching Bhadrak, the man booked two tickets in a sleeper bus and tactfully took the girl to Kolkata.
On the way, he pulled the large screens in the sleeper bus and allegedly assaulted the girl sexually four to five times. He threatened her with dire consequences in case she screamed for help or reveal the incident to anybody.
Dayanidhi returned to Bhadrak with the girl the same night by bus. They reached Bhadrak town at in the early hours of Monday and he dropped the girl on the roadside on the way to her home in critical condition.
Based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, a police team from Dasarathpur reached the village and launched an investigation.
