Nabarangpur: BJD MLA Manohar Randhari did a Modi by washing feet of four sanitation workers of government healthcare centres at Dabugam in Nabarangpur district during a ‘Swachh Odisha, Sustha Odisha’ drive on Sunday.
The video of his gesture acknowledging the contribution of sanitation workers – Tulasa Bhatara, Sunamani Nayak, Juga Sikri and Dilip Harijan – is now doing the rounds on social media.
The four are engaged in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) at Papadahandi and Dabugan.
The legislator said that it was his way of expressing gratitude to the workers, who ensure cleanliness in locality and hospitals throughout the year. “Everyone must respect them and acknowledge their importance,” he added.
Carrying forward the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi of felicitating sanitation workers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February had also washed their feet at Prayagraj. The PM had described them as “real karm yogis” who ensured cleanliness during the Kumbh Mela.
However, this was not the first time that Randhari grabbed headlines for setting an example for all elected representatives. In July, he had got down from his vehicle to repair a potholes road while on his way to Jabaguda village in Papadahandi block to distribute umbrellas and raincoats among farmers.
The legislator was also seen working in a farmland in a village on a hot and humid day.
