Bhubaneswar: With chief minister Naveen Patnaik announcing free vaccines for all above 18 years of age, the Odisha government on Sunday ordered over 3.87 crore vaccines from two companies.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra has written to Bharat Biotech requesting for supply of 10.34 lakh doses of Covaxin vaccine. He has also sought 3.77 crore doses of Covishield from Serum Institute of India (SII).
The government will procure the vaccines through Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL).
Covishield will be administered the people across Odisha except the areas under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation where only Covaxin will be available.
The government has placed the order in view of third phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive to be launched from May 1. Odisha has a population of around 1.93 crore in the age group of 18 to 44 years.
