Malkangiri: Women are showing much enthusiasm in different areas to elect their representatives at district, block and panchayat levels.

Voters were seen arraiving at a model ‘pink’ polling booth at MV7 under Tamasa gram panchayat in Odisha’s Malkangiri district to exercise their franchise with the first phase of Panchayat elections commencing on Wednesday.

Pink Booth is an “All-Women Managed Polling Station”. This is an initiative committed to gender equality and greater constructive participation of women in the electoral process.

Nodal Officer Balamukunda Bhuyan informed that 367 voters can cast their vote here.

While over 74,000 voters will be exercising their franchise in three Zilla Parishad zones of Malkangiri block, 88 booths here have been declared sensitive.

Stamping ballot papers is a new experience for them in the age of EVMs.

A first-time voter, Shibani Takre, shared their excitement of visiting the ‘pink’ booth to cast her vote. “I voted for the candidate who I felt would do good work for the region,” she said.

Voting is also underway at the pink booth at Borigumma block in Odisha’s Koraput for 61 sarpanch candidates.
