Bhubaneswar: After issuing advisory to people on fake app loans and online part-time job offers by cyber criminals, Odisha Police has alerted about SIM swap scams.
In a tweet, the Odisha Police has told the people to remain alert against fraudsters who call on the mobile phone numbers introducing themselves as mobile operator staff.
“The fraudsters would try to convince you with SIM upgrades or benefits. Then they would access your SM cad or duplicate it because all your accounts are linked to your registered number. So be aware & stay cyber safe,” the tweet read.
In another message titled “Attention – Beware of SIM Swap Scams”, the police advised the people not to entertain any stranger who contacts over phone and tells that he/she is a representative of telecom company and offers to upgrade the SIM card.
“The caller may be a scammer trying to hijack your phone to gain access to services linked to your mobile number, including security protocols and verification for your bank accounts, money transfers and related transactions,” the Odisha Police said in the tweet.
It may be noted that the police had issued an advisory on September 1 about cyber criminals targeting the people seeking online part-time jobs. The scammers send fake messages/e-mails offering part-time jobs in the name of reputed companies. Once the person confirms it, they ask for money towards registration fee and training etc and dupe him, the Odisha Police said.
