Bhubaneswar: Inspector of Police Trinath Sethy, who had allegedly misbehaved with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the run up to the recent elections, has been transferred from Keonjhar to Gajapati.
As per an order issued by the police state headquarters in Cuttack on Friday, Sethy who is now posted in Keonjhar, has been transferred and posted in Gajapati.
It was alleged that Sethy, who was IIC of Keonjhar Police Station, had misbehaved with Mohan Majhi at the police station ahead of the simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The police official had allegedly asked Majhi to leave the police station.
Mohan Majhi, who was also Keonjhar MLA at that time, had staged a sit-in along with others in front of the police station protesting the incident in May and demanding action against the IIC.
The incident reportedly took place after residents of Raisuan and Gopinathpur panchayats were upset over the drinking water crisis and blocked the NH-20.
Majhi had then stated that the agitating people requested him to visit the place to sort out their issue and he also reached the site.
He had said he assured the people that he would inform the matter to the executive engineer of the RWSS. Later the road blockade was lifted.
Subsequently, IIC Trinath Sethi called the people to the police station for a discussion on the issue. As people went to the police station, they also took Majhi there.
It was alleged that the IIC misbehaved with Majhi and asked him the reason for visiting the police station when the MCC was in force. The IIC also asked him to ‘get out’ of the place and warned of action, it was alleged.
Thereafter, Majhi and local residents staged a dharna in front of the police station, demanding action against the police official.
